New Cowl on the Block

Hi there dear Friends...

I know I don't need another cowl and I know I have a blanket to finish ... but what can a girl do when she sees such gorgeous yarn and such beautiful patterns all over and around her ???

Well, a girl got to get the yarn and start a new cowl...

And that is exactly what I am doing this weekend. I took a couple of days to spend with my family for Spring break (yes I said a magical word...Spring is coming to Oregon).

I went to the RoseCity Yarn Crawl last month and this was one of the free patterns they were giving at one of my favorite yarn stores, Happy Knits in Portland, OR. I think that you can find the pattern on Ravelry.

It's a fun and easy cowl and I'm enjoying the simple and calming feeling of just knitting rows and rows of garter stitch...just getting ready for the next step now.

And, of course, if I'm going to have a few days off I will have a couple extra minutes and it will be filled with some knitting and crocheting ... my kind of fun.

I met with "the girls", Teresa, Gracie and Betsy, last week for a lunch and of course we had gifts for each other and a wonderful time together (which really is the biggest gift we really have). I thought I got a picture of all of us, but i didn't get one ... I did get a picture of the goodies we exchanged and the wonderful hats and sweater Betsy made for me to send to my mom. My mom makes a starter welcome box for underprivileged pregnant ladies in Brazil. I have been making hats to send to her and she adds them to the boxes... well, now that I told my friends Betsy, my builder Kristy (yes, what are the chances you are going to build a house and your builder also looooves to knit ? ) and a couple of my friends MaryAnn and Rosario have also helped me with a few more hats this time.

My mom is going to be so excited when she gets them. I will have more details about this project on a later post. Just wanted to say a BIG THANK YOU to Teresa, Betsy and Gracie for the gifts and for their friendship and a big THANK YOU to Betsy, Kristy, MaryAnn and Rosario for the hats. You are making a difference in a child's life and your hats will keep their heads and hearts warm :)

Hope you all are having a great week and have a great beginning of Spring.

Thanks for stopping by ...I love to hear from all of you. You are such a great support and you make my day :)

  1. The new cowl is pretty, Taci, and I'm glad you are enjoying stitching it :) It is always a treat to spend time with you and I am inspired by all that you make, especially since your schedule is so crammed. I have been looking for a rectangular pattern to use for a simple shawl using the blue malabrigo yarn I purchased at the Knitting Bee on the way to the coast several weeks ago. The store has just moved to Barnes road so I think will be a little closer to us. Thank you so much for the knitting project bag! I am taking it with me driving to CA to visit with my sisters south of San Francisco next week. Blessings to you and yours...I look forward to our next visit! xx

  2. Hi Taci. Such a happy post. Your cowl is going to be lovely. (As usual). I can imagine rows of garter stitch are relaxing and fun. Happy spring to you too!!! I'm so glad you were able to take some time from work this week to enjoy your kids. I'm glad you liked the sweater set and hats for your Mom. I started another baby sweater today. :-)
    Blessings my friend.

  3. That cowl actually looks like something I could make. The garter stitch is the only one I'm fairly good at. Sweet hats and what a great cause. Your mom and a whole lot of other people will be thrilled with them.

  6. I know what you mean about enjoying knitting rows of garter being relaxing. When we follow patterns it takes a lot more concentration so we don't wreck the pattern. The hats are a lovely idea, that is so nice of you to do for those women :) looks like you have a lot ready to go already.
    Have a good day,

  7. Lovely Taci, I think garter stitch is highly underrated. It is beautiful, simple and the best part it does not curl!!!!! I love what you are making. Glad you took a few days off, you deserve them. Also glad you had time to meet up with the ladies, such fun for all of you.
    Happy Weekend and happy knitting,
    Meredith
