Summer is Here

Hi There dear friends ...

I sure have missed you.

I have been a bit out of comission. My shoulder is still bothering me and now even more since I have a "frozen shoulder". It makes it very hard to do anything and typing is not a very pleasant thing as I have to type a lot at my work during the day. I have been trying to "visit" all of you as much as I can, but haven't been able to comment very much ... you know ... the typing thing again.

I have been enjoying the start of the summer and all that the sun brings to us.  

The flowers have just been gorgeous around us.

I also have been working on a few things, but really cannot show much of it until after this weekend. I have been working on graduation gifts and those are somewhat of a secret till this weekend when my daughter graduates from High School. 

They have had Prom ... Here is a picture of my beautiful Jewels ... my daughter and my handsome son...my two more precious gifts.

And then a picture of Mama and daughter ... Happy :)

Now it's preparing for graduation this weekend ...

Talking about that its hard to believe she is graduating and going to college. Life is going at such a fast speed I have a hard time believing all these is happening right in front of my eyes, but I am really enjoying every minute of it.

She has finished all her finals...she has practiced and we are all ready for it ...
and it will all happen this weekend.

 Although I have not had much time to knit and crochet as I said many of my projects are now hiding ... but ...

Amongst all "the things I cannot show you yet" I have been doing so many washcloths I can almost do them with my eyes closed ... ha, ha !!!

I think I have mentioned before that this is a pattern from Pearl Soho and I really, really love it. It is the "wedding washcloths".

Before I go I wanted to say a BIG THANK YOU to all of you my great friends who have donated to my HATS TO BRAZIL project. 

I have collected 95 hats and my luggage is completely full So although I had thought about bringing more hats I got just the perfect amount as I can only bring 1 luggage due to my shoulder injury and I got so many beautiful hats it will fill the hearts of so many mothers and keep so many babies warm.

Hi there dearests

I'm still having trouble with my arm and shoulder so I decided maybe it would be a good idea to start a series of short posts to see if I can slowly get back here. 

I miss you all ...

Spring has been just gorgeous here in Oregon ... I'm just overwhelmed by its beauty.

And Here is what I have been doing this Sunday mornings ...

I have a beautiful Hawaiian friend who just had a baby boy. I was making this bright and happy baby blanket for her about a month ago when the baby decided to come a lot earlier than expected. Both mom and baby are doing great ... And I'm trying to do a little ( shhhh ... don't tell my doctor ;)) every day to see if I can get it done by the time she comes back .


 

Thank you for coming to see me even if I'm only here for just a short little post. . . I sure miss you.

PS: made an inventory of all my "Hats for Brazil"  this weekend and I already have 81 hats, 3 blankets and  5 sweaters with matching booties. Yay !!! And all thanks to your generous hearts !!! I will be doing a proper post thanking everyone of you next time. Here is a little sneak preview:

A big thank you and My first hat this year

You are all such a great, wonderful bunch !!!
I feel so blessed and overjoyed ... I have gotten such a great response from all of you about my little endeavor ... My great hat adventure. I feel blessed to know that I'm part of such a caring and supportive community. To know that all over the world there are people like YOU ... People that care and people that want to help one another and the ones that have less than we do. In a way I don't feel like they have less than we do ... They have less material possessions, but they have so much to offer and they have giving me this great gift ... To know and to get to know each one of you a little better and to feel so connected by this effort.

Thank you for such a great gift and for creating this strong link that now keeps us all together.

I have made my first hat for this year and I know many of you are already fast at work making yours ... Go check Teresa's ( www.teresakasner.blogspot.com ) she made 4 adorable hats already ...
I was also so surprised last week with such a sweet delightful gift that my sweet friend Betsy (from www.thesimplelifeofaqueen.blogspot.com) sent to me... This cute, sweet, pink heart. Thank you my sweet friend. You are so great and thoughtful ... When I count my blessings you are always included my dear friend ... You made me smile and made my day.

Before I go today I wanted to say my most heartfelt, humble THANK YOU again to all of you who have volunteered and are donating your time, your talent, your gift and your heart to help with this project ... It would really not be possible without you.

Hats for Brazil 2015

Hi There Friends

 

As a new Year starts I always have renewed energy and hope.

I make plans for the New Year and I always feel so happy for the new perspectives it brings to me...

It is like the sun rising in the morning, no matter how hard the previous day was seeing a new sunrise always brings me hope.

 

This year we have a lot going on and lots of planning for the new things happening.

 

My husband is turning a big 50 ... my daughter is graduating ... and after her graduation we are hoping to go to Brazil to see my family ... oh how much I miss them...  and how happy I feel just thinking about being there.

 

Every time we go to Brazil I want to bring gifts with me. We go to a village in North Recife, Brazil and we spend a few days there getting to know the families and their needs. One of their greater needs is for clothes and hats for newborn babies. My mom makes bags with complete layettes for underprivileged pregnant ladies and she includes a hat, mittens, sweaters and everything else a new baby would need as these ladies don't ever have a baby shower ... for them these simple, humble bags are their baby shower. 

 

This year my daughter and I have made a goal and we want to try to bring 200 hats ( a rough estimate of the numbers of days before we leave) with us when we go in the beginning of July.

 

I know ... I'm a bit ambitious as I work full time and my daughter is graduating ... I know I won't be able to make 200 hats by myself ... unless ... if I get your help ...

 

So, if you love to make baby hats ... and you

would like to gift a baby hat ... I can take them with me ... 

 

My daughter is going to make tags (I will be showing them here very soon)... each hat will have a tag that will say: "this hat was made especially for you ... with love by .... and we will write your name in the space.

If you would prefer you can write your name and a little message also on your hats.

 

Through out the years my friends and I have made hats and we have sent them to Africa and to Brazil.

 

This time I wish to take them with me as I'm going there and I cannot deny they are close to my heart.

 

 

This is a work in progress as I have already mentioned to some of my friends and I have sent a few to be given away this past Christmas ... but the new ones will be going with me and I will be updating you as to where to send them if you would like to be part of this effort.

 

 

 

I feel so privileged and so touched to have all of you as part of my life ...

Oh Baby ...baby boots.

Hi there my friends.
Hope you are all having a wonderful week.
We are having such a wonderful beginning of the Fall season here in Oregon. The weather is still warm during the day and getting cold and cozy in the evenings. The leafs are turning yellow, orange and the most beautiful shades of red. It almost feel like you are walking into a picture everywhere you go ... what a blessing to live in such a great beautiful place.

I have been working a lot. My job is, sometimes, very busy and stressful with lots of emergencies,,, and right now I'm in one of those times ... but I have put out a lot of fires in the last 3 weeks and hope we are coming down to a more calm time.

Because I have been so busy I haven't been able to do much, but what I have been doing has been very happy. I have mostly worked on a few baby blankets. The very rewarding kind of blanket I make for a lot of my friends and family. I have shown you a few of them before. they are made of fabric (which I enjoy doing a little bit of sewing) and crochet around the edges.

This week I also finally finished one of the favorite baby booties I have ever made ...

I saw this baby boots at a market about a year ago. I have a friend who just had a girl. I made a blanket for her but really wanted to make some baby boots ... then I remember the "baby ughs" I just loved it ...

... I looked for the pattern and found it on Etsy ... oh, thank God for Etsy..

Here is the information in case you feel like you won't be able to sleep if you don't make one also:
The pattern is "The Furrylicious Boot" from Twogirlspatterns at etsy.

I have to say I have been crocheting for a very long time and this is not an easy project, but the pattern is very, very well written and they have a wonderful series of pictures that makes it not only a lot easier to complete, but also a very fun pair of baby booties. I'm not one to like making socks or sleepers because I'm a classic case of the second sock syndrome ... I get all excited about making a pair of socks, but after I make the first one I really don't want to make the second one and it takes me a while before I can pick it up again ...but this one was all worth it ... I'm even thinking about making another one.

Well, I hope you enjoy the pictures ( I can't wait to see a picture of the baby wearing it) ...
and that you are enjoying whatever project you are working on it right now ... after all it should be the journey, not so much the destination, that really makes as happy ...
